MayoFlux case study

KM KennaFlow Frac Seat

Client: KennametalIndustry: industrial tooling and advanced manufacturingRole: AnimationYear: 2004

Problem

Kennametal needed a visual way to explain a technical product, system, process, or differentiator that would be difficult to show clearly with live footage alone.

Client / industry

Kennametal works in industrial tooling and advanced manufacturing. MayoFlux framed the work for the audience, use case, and product context behind the assignment.

Input assets

CAD or product references, technical notes, brand direction, sales context, engineering feedback, and available media or scripts.

Production process

MayoFlux shaped the story, prepared or rebuilt assets, handled look development, animation, lighting, rendering, compositing, and technical review cycles.

Deliverables

Product animation masters, web-ready embeds, sales or trade show versions, and visual assets that can be reused across launch, training, and follow-up.

Outcome

A clearer technical story that helps viewers understand the product value without decoding raw specs or engineering notes.

Project notes

Kennametal works with Mayoflux directly, connecting our artists with their engineers so every animation nails the technical details. Starting from a broad outline, we drafted the script, boarded each shot, and built photoreal tool models in Cinema 4D. Redshift handled metal shaders and chip breakage, while iterative reviews with the engineering team ensured tolerances, coating colors, and feed rates were accurate.

The main challenge was translating micrometer-scale data into visuals. Custom displacement maps revealed edge wear, and speed-ramped camera moves highlighted chip ejection without overwhelming the viewer. The finished animation became Kennametals lead asset for this product and has since guided multiple follow-up projects. Mayoflux turns complex visuals into clear stories - let us simplify yours next.
